Thoughts...on a Friday

In this small southern college town...It is indeed a Friday!

Short work week.

Long week for next week.

The NBA play-offs are a going.

Baseball is about to embark on their..."dog days" of summer.

There are proms going on...

Graduations....

Weddings...

And...our thoughts on a Friday.

Five things...I think ...I think:

I don't think...I know I'm a member of the best family on the planet earth!

Again, I don't think...I know my brother-in-law...Larry ...is an inspiration to all of us ...for what he's been through lately.  (You hang in there,  Mr. Jones)

I think I'm a pretty good grill master...but I had a flame up on the blue fish and salmon. Not my best production.

I think my nephew, Benji...should forgo his banking career...and cut hair!  He made me look at least...5 years...younger?

And finally...I maybe....just a little bit biased....  But...my little  Mckay....my grand...is just the cutest thing I have ever had the pleasure to be associated with...well...since ...maybe ...her mom.

Breaking News

Tragic...We remember Mookie as an Atlanta Hawk...back in the day.

From Fox5 News in Atlanta:

Former Hawks player Mookie Blaylock on life support after accident

Posted: May 31, 2013 6:40 PM EST Updated: May 31, 2013 6:47 PM EST
CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. - Former NBA star and Atlanta Hawks player Mookie Blaylock is on life support after an accident in Clayton County on Friday, police said.

Blaylock and two other people were transported to Atlanta Medical Center after the accident, which took place on Tara Blvd in Jonesboro between 12:30 p.m. and 1 p.m.
Authorities say that Blaylock was driving northbound on Tara Blvd. in an Escalade when he crossed the median and struck an oncoming van.
Blaylock was unresponsive, officials said.
A female passenger in the van was in "extreme critical condition" at the hospital, according to authorities.
The condition of the driver of the van was not immediately known.
According to the NBA's website, Blaylock, 46, played in the NBA for 13 seasons for three different teams, including the Hawks from 1992-1999. He retired in 2002.

Well Educated....But Still...Stupid

What a moron...By now everyone has seen the videos of this idiots' latest rants.  He has insulted an institution ...Notre Dame.   A religion....Catholics.   And an entire section of America...the SEC.

Funny thing...he will still have his job.   As embarrassing as he has been to Ohio State,  there really is nothing that can be done to remove him...legally.

Wow,  this doesn't happen often....this is courtesy of ....Fox News:

"Brave" New Line-up

B. J. Upton ....benched....Dan Uggla,  benched.    Jason Heyward,  benched.  All three guys had a batting average well south of .200.

So the Atlanta Braves said, "If you can't hit...you can't play"!  Their replacements erupted for 11 runs in the win last night.

So,  Atlanta....this is not rocket science.  Sit these no hitting, prim a donas ...down.

Great job last night.

A "Heat" Check

This series between the Miami Heat and the Indiana Pacers...may go the distance...7 games.

But make no mistake....The Heat has the better team.  More stars...more talent.  More LeBron James.

Last night Miami put their boots on the throat of the Pacers....and didn't let off.

From the Miami Herald:

Game 5 | Heat 90, Pacers 79

King's dominion

LeBron James shot Miami out of danger with a sequence of jump shots that put the Heat ahead for good in a 90-79 victory against the Pacers in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals.

Another NBA...Marriage & Divorce

Wow....This NBA marriage....divorce...court hearings is indeed color blind.  No, this is not a Shaq...or a Kolby....

It's one of our favorite white guys....Steve Nash!

From our friends at TMZ.com:

Place to Raise Kids

Exclusive

Steve Nash -- who plays for the LOS ANGELES Lakers -- just trashed L.A. in open court ... claiming the City of Angels is NO PLACE to raise a family.

Nash slammed L.A. on the stand in his legal war with ex-wife Alejandra ... saying point blank, "I don't want my kids to grow up in L.A."

Raising kids in L.A.

  • Good idea
  • Bad idea
Nash said he would consider raising his kids in San Diego ... but only because "it's a different lifestyle."

Of course, Alejandra doesn't believe that -- she thinks Steve's trying to block her from moving the kids to L.A. because the Arizona courts aren't making him pay a penny in child support and he's afraid a California judge would nail him.

Why the Hawks will Always be Mediocre

If you look up "mediocre" in the dictionary...you're very likely to see the franchise of the NBA's Atlanta Hawks.

The Hawks will always win 45 to 50 games a year....make the play-offs....exit the play-offs...with little buzz in the ATL.

The city has been waiting and waiting...and waiting.   This is a great city with great facilities.  The world's busiest airport.  CNN,  Coca-cola,  UPS,  Home Depot....

But when it comes to this organization....it's ...well bogged down in a mediocrity that's getting down right distasteful.

No big name coach was even courted....much less signed.   And in the end?

We get a life long assistant coach...who we can't even pronounce his name.

Really?  Atlanta Hawks?  Really?

And in Indianapolis....the Pacers are wondering, " What the hell was that freight train that just rolled us?"

Aaaahhh.....such are the NBA play-offs!  This is the Eastern Conference Finals and it doesn't get any better than this.

From the Miami Herald:

LeBron James scored 22 points and the Miami Heat rediscovered their offensive punch, routing the Indiana Pacers to take a 2-1 lead in the Eastern Conference finals.

A Memorial Day...Re-Post

Memorial Day is more than hamburgers and hot dogs.   It is much...much more.  American soldiers have died for us.  They  have died for us and made the ultimate sacrifice so we can have the freedoms we have.

Pause today.  Pray today.  Take a moment to reflect today.

From 2010:

The Ultimate Price

As we observe another Memorial Day, let us pause to remember the soldiers in so many wars who gave so many of their lives. Too often, we take our armed forces for granted. And if it means a Holiday has to be created for us to remember them..........so be it!

A closer look ..........at all those casualties... From Wikipedia:

Wars ranked by total deaths

Rank ↓ War ↓ Years ↓ Deaths ↓ Deaths per Day ↓ Deaths per Population ↓
1 American Civil War 1861–1865 625,000 599 1.988% (1860)
2 World War II 1941–1945 405,399 416 0.307% (1940)
3 World War I 1917–1918 116,516 279 0.110% (1920)
4 Vietnam War 1964–1973 58,151 26 0.003% (1970)
5 Korean War 1950–1953 36,516 45 0.002% (1950)
6 American Revolutionary War 1775–1783 25,000 11 0.899% (1780)
7 War of 1812 1812–1815 20,000 31 0.345% (1810)
8 Mexican-American War 1846–1848 13,283 29 0.057% (1850)
9 Philippine War 1899–1902 4,196 5 0.006% (1900)
10 Iraq War 2003–present 4,079 2.34 0.001% (2007)

That is an awful lot of lives lost for causes..........good ....and bad. In their memory..........we offer salutes.......

Thoughts...on a Friday

In this small southern college town...It is a Friday!  It is springtime and wonderful out side.

The NBA play-offs are in full swing.  Baseball's "Boys of Summer" are playing their game.

There are proms going on...Graduations....and this Sunday is Mother's Day.

We have not spoken from the heart in a while...no ad-lib's for months now.

Let's change that tonight.

Some thoughts...on a Friday.

Why is it?  Every time you wash your car...it rains the next day?

Most disturbing thing seen this week?  A senior citizen on I-85...in the fast lane...on a cell phone!

Why do people down here in the south....come to a complete stop for funeral convoys?

Are TV commercials getting more stupid?  Or... Are we just getting smarter?

That Cleveland thing with those 3 women....is about as bizarre as bizarre...can get!

5 things...I think I think:

I think....and I know...I love my family!

I think my one and only grandchild,  McKay...is the most beautiful child ever!

I still love...freshly cut grass...even though it's not friendly to my sinus.

I'm finally over this frigging cold...lasted a full...frigging month!

I think...I'm due...I really need a vacation!

Have a great week-end.....See you soon.

Same old...Gutless Hawks

Lets see....Wikipedia says an NBA basketball court is..94 feet by 50 feet.   In every NBA arena.   The basket is a steel rim 18 inches diameter with an attached net affixed to a backboard that measures 6 feet by 3.5 feet and one basket is at each end of the court. The white outlined box on the backboard is 18 inches high and 2 feet wide. At almost all levels of competition, the top of the rim is exactly 10 feet above the court and 4 feet inside the baseline.

So...the Atlanta hawks play on virtually the same court in Atlanta...as they do in Indianapolis.

So....what the problem is?

The courts are the same.  At home and on the road.   The baskets are the same...at home and on the road.   The ball is the same.  At home or on the road.

Then why can't these fools play well on the road?

You tell me.   It must be mental.   But I just don't get it.  When I played ball...I used to love playing in hostile environments.  Made me concentrate...work  harder!   I loved the look on the other teams cheerleaders and fans when I scored and we won.

But these Atlanta Hawks?

Gutless!

Here's yet another example:
