Much "Ado"...About Nothing

"He raped me", the girl alleged...."It was consensual", he said.

And after more than a year gathering evidence from their mutual friends...getting DNA data...investigating details...

The prosecution could not put a case against the "he".

This really small time item made national news because...  "He" is a big time college athlete...who plays a big time position...(Quarterback)....for a big time football power (Florida State).

We don't know the truth.  For it lies somewhere between "He"...and the girl.

What we do know is Florida State will play Duke on Saturday for the ACC Championship and it's star QB...(He)....was somehow involved in all of this.

But now...no charges...no nothing.

Again...much "ado"....'bout nothing.

A true track star!

Lewis Benjamin, my nephew is a true track star at Winston-Salem State University.

Lewis is #163.

A Medea Re-post

This is a re-post from a few years ago.  Enjoy:

Madea's Thanksgiving Rules

RULES FOR THANKSGIVING DINNER AT MY HOUSE

1. Don't get in line asking questions about the food. "Who made the potato salad? Is there egg in there? Are the greens fresh? Is the meat in the greens turkey or pork? Who made the macaroni and cheese? What kind of pie is that? Who made it? Ask one more question and I will punch you in your mouth, knocking out all your fronts so you won't be able to eat anything.

2. If you can't walk or are missing any limbs, sit your butt down until someone makes your plate for you. Dinner time is not the time for you to be independent. Nibble on them pecans and walnuts to hold you over until someone makes you a plate.

3. If you have kids under the age of twelve, I will escort their little butts to the basement and bring their food down to them. They are not going to tear my house up this year. Tell them that they are not allowed upstairs until it's time for Uncle Butchie to start telling family stories about their mommas and papas. If they come upstairs for any reason except for that they are bleeding to death, I will tear their butts up and you better not ask why!

4. There is going to be one prayer for Thanksgiving dinner! JUST ONE! We do not care that you are thankful that your 13 year old daughter gave birth to a healthy baby or your nephew just got out of jail. The time limit for the prayer is one minute. If you are still talking after that one minute is up, you will feel something hard come across your lips and they will be swollen for approximately 20 minutes.

5. Finish everything on your plate before you go up for seconds! If you don't, you will be asked to stay your greedy butt home next year!

6. BRING YOUR OWN TUPPERWARE!! Don't let me catch you fixing yourself a plate in my good Tupperware knowing that I will never see it again! Furthermore, if you didn't bring anything over, don't let me catch you making a plate period or it will be a misunderstanding. And why are you making plates before you eat? You never bring a dish or offer a dime do you?

7. What you came with is what you should leave with!! Do not leave my house with anything that doesn't belong to you. EVERYBODY WILL BE SUBJECTED TO A BODY SEARCH COMING AND GOING OUT OF MY DOMAIN!!!

8. Do not leave your kids so you can go hopping from house to house. This is not a DAYCARE CENTER ! There will be a kid-parent roll call every ten minutes. Any parent that is not present at the time of roll call, your child will be put outside until you come and get him or her. After 24 hours, I will call CPS!

9. BOOK YOUR HOTEL ROOM BEFORE YOU COME INTO TOWN!! There will be no sleeping over at my house! You are to come and eat dinner and go home or to your hotel room. EVERYBODY GETS KICKED OUT AT 11:00 pm. You will get a 15 minute warning bell ring.

10. Last but not least! ONE PLATE PER PERSON!! This is not a soup kitchen. I am not trying to feed your family until Christmas dinner! You will be supervised when you fix your plate. Anything over the appropriate amount will be charged to you before you leave. There will be a cash register at the door. Thanks to Cousin

Alfred and his greedy family, we now have a credit card machine! So VISA and MASTERCARD are now being accepted. NO FOOD STAMPS OR ACCESS CARDS YET

Grambling....is Crumbling

This is so sad.   It's a long read...but worth it.

From Sports Illustrated:

The once-proud Grambling St. football program that Eddie Robinson built is in danger of falling apart.

These "Dawgs"...are Just..."Dogs"

The University of Georgia's football team has sank to a new low.  Bad offense, bad defense, bad special teams.

And most of all....bad coaching.

From the Athens Banner Herald:

Thoughts on a Labor Day

It is a beautiful day in the neighborhood...in this small southern college town.  Down the road a bit,  Atlanta was rocking this weekend.   The Chick-fil-A  Kickoff Classic.   Dragon Con.   NASCAR.   The Braves.  Even Georgia Tech had a home game.

A Costly Celebration

They say if you live long enough...you're liable to see everything.  Well,  what we saw Saturday night in Clemson, South Carolina...is one for the ages.

The University of Georgia not only lost a football game...but lost their leading receiver.

Some time...some where...a long time ago....Georgia must have upset the college football gods.   This kind of thing just doesn't happen.

Bad karma?  Bad coaching?  Bad common sense?

From the Athens Banner Herald:

Our Future Leaders

Sad really...Who's "responsible"?

From Yahoo Sports:

If proof was needed that the preseason is a warm-up for more than just the players, it just arrived at a scrimmage in Alabama.
Hoover High's run-through banner, in preseason form — TwitterHoover High's run-through banner, in preseason form — Twitter
As pictured on a variety of Twitter accounts and brought to Prep Rally's attention by Busted Coverage, Hoover (Al.) High, one of the nation's most high profile football programs, entered the field by bursting through a giant "run-through" banner with an enormous misspelled word during a recent preseason game. The banner, which was created by the Hoover cheerleaders, can be seen above.
Just in case you can't make out the exact words, here's what the banner says:
Hoover Football Cannot Be Held Responsable For Ruffled Feathers
Someone might want to take the time to remind the Hoover cheerleaders that it's spelled "responsible" with an "i", not an "a."
The ruffled feathers part of the message was a clever allusion to the Florence (Al.) High Falcons, who were Hoover's opponents in the preseason scrimmage.
Luckily for Hoover, the game on the field was more successful than the banner-making exercise; the Bucs pulled out a 27-6 victory against Florence.

Brave New World....Again

Okay...alright...Our beloved Atlanta Braves are leading the NL East by 9 games.  And it's almost August.

Just 56 games left.

But all of us know....what's happened in the past.  Even though Atlanta just swept the best team in all of baseball (St. Louis)...for Braves fans....we have a wait-in-see attitude.

Skyview....is ..."No View"

Sorry...but we just don't get it.

Atlanta's new 200 foot ferris wheel opened last week.

A 15 minute ride... for roughly $15.

They say the gondolas are air conditioned.   So is the Peach Tree Plaza Hotel...which ...by the way towers over this little ferris wheel.

Check out the picture.  This thing is dwarfed by several dozen Atlanta skyscrapers.

Want to really see the ATL?

Try going up on Stone Mountain.   This is a ferris wheel better suited for a county fair.

$15?

We still don't get it.

Things We Learned...From the Weekend

Tis' the rainy season in this small southern college town.

To borrow a quote from Forrest Gump, "We been through every kind of rain there is. Little bitty stingin' rain... and big ol' fat rain. Rain that flew in sideways. And sometimes rain even seemed to come straight up from underneath. Shoot, it even rained at night...

It has rained so much lately...I could have sworn I saw Noah...trying to rebuild the Ark.

Why We Love...Our President!

Unless you are a black...African-American male....you could not...and will not ...ever know that feeling.

Most of us ...are so different from the black youths of today...them...with the sagging britches ...underwear showing..."hoodie" wearing.

But there is not a black man alive who has not gone through what President Obama said happened to even him.

Being black means we get special attention.   Walk down the street...White folks move to the other side.

Go shopping in a mall...without wearing a business suit.  See what happens.  "Can we help you?"  A clerk will ask.   What they are really saying is,  "We're watching you....so you don't steal from us."

I have seen it...I have lived it.   And so happy to have a President...that understands it.

We know it has been a while...

For that ...we apologize.   There have been some computer problems...problems with the google blogger...Firefox problems...Internet Explorer problems...

You name a problem?

We had that problem!

Hard to believe our last post was over two weeks ago.

And that post came from North Carolina...on one of 6eVoices's many computers.

Well...well....well....What's been going on in this crazy world we live in?  When we last spoke....Our girl, Paula Dean was getting into trouble for using the "N" word ...30 years ago.   She compounded the situation by stupidly appearing on all those network morning shows.

Some good news...Paula?

My brother and my daughter...didn't throw away their Paula Dean cookware.  Them still some good pots and pans!

The other major story we have missed commenting on is the George Zimmerman case.

Out take is simple.   Trayvon Martin...would still be alive today...if Mr. Zimmerman had heeded the police dispatcher's call for him to stay in his vehicle....and not pursue.

Now...a young life is gone...Mr Zimmerman's life is pretty much gone.   We have a country divided.

Should have stayed in the car...George!

And with that.....

We're back!

A Series...to Remember

A funny thing happened last night.  I watched...along with millions all over the world...a basketball game.

Of course this was not any ordinary game.   This was game 7.  This was for the championship of the world.

An even with the late start...after 9 pm on the east coast, my eyes stayed wide open for this masterpiece.

We applaud the Miami Heat and the San Antonio Spurs for putting on quite a show in 7 grueling games.

It's a 2 out of 3 Series...Now!

Great game last night...If you are a Heat fan.

This Could be ....A Sweep!

Yes, it's just one game....out of a 7 game series.  But watching last night's San Antonio's win...it leads to an awful lot of questions regarding the Miami Heat.

Great game.  Close....But here's what we saw.

Miami has no answer to Tony Parker.  He drove into the lane with ease....Passed to open men...and hit crucial after crucial jumpers.

Team defense.  San Antonio did not shut the big three down (LeBron, Dwayne, & Bosh)...but their team oriented defense limited those Miami runs...those 10-0....15-2 runs.   Miami could not get out on the fast breaks.

Yes, it's just one game....but the Heat is in big trouble.
