"Black Monday" 2014

First of all....

Why do they call it "Black Monday"?

What does black...have to do with coaches getting fired?

It should be "Pink Monday"...being that all those coaches got the "Pink Slip"!

Anyway...so goes the NFL!

Eyes Wide Open!

You can open your eyes again...The Atlanta Hawks just won another game...against another formidable team.

This time it was the Clippers of LA.  With none other than former Hawks great guard ...Doc Rivers coaching.

I watched this from the opening ceremonies (you really have to see the new Hawks Intro) ...to the end.

These Hawks...I think..are ...for real!

Georgia Dome...ShowDown!

Carolina and Atlanta...Next Sunday...playing for the NFC South Division Champion.

Wow!

Neither team will finish with a winning record...but who cares?  This is the NFL.  Just get to the post season...and see what happens.

From the Charlotte Observer:

The Carolina Panthers will play a winner-take-all game for the NFC South title next week at Atlanta after dispatching the Cleveland Brown 17-13 on a gray Sunday at Bank of America Stadium.

The Saints...go Marching...Out of the Play-offs!

For us?  This was great!   Our beloved Birds...beat the hated Saints....In New Orleans!

As bad as this season has been...this was one of those,  "It don't get no better...than this!"

These Falcons fell behind...7-0...scored the next 20....then  held on to win.  A defense that hasn't stopped an offense all year.....stopped the Saints.

On the road.

In the SuperDome!

From the New Orleans Times-Picayune... We just love to see them lose!

Cuba? Can We Finally Get to Know You?

Bay of Pigs...I was only a child at the time...but my Dad was there.

The Cuban Revolution of 1952 to 1959 had seen President Fulgencio Batista, a right-wing ally of the U.S., ousted. He was replaced by a new left-wing administration dominated by Castro, which had severed the country's formerly strong links with the U.S. by expropriating their economic assets and developing links with the Soviet Union, with whom the U.S. was then embroiled in the Cold War. The President of U.S. government Dwight D. Eisenhower was concerned at the direction which Castro's government was taking, and in March 1960, Eisenhower allocated $13.1 million to the CIA in order to plan Castro's overthrow. The CIA proceeded to organize the operation with the aid of various Cuban counter-revolutionary forces, training Brigade 2506 in Mexico. Following his election in 1960, president John F. Kennedy was informed of the invasion plan and gave his consent.
Over 1,400 paramilitaries, divided into five infantry battalions and one paratrooper battalion, assembled in Guatemala before setting out for Cuba by boat on 13 April. On 15 April, eight CIA-supplied B-26 bombers attacked Cuban air fields and returned to the U.S. On the night of 16 April, the main invasion landed at a beach named Playa Girón in the Bay of Pigs. It initially overwhelmed a local revolutionary militia. The Cuban Army's counter-offensive was led by Captain José Ramón Fernández, before Castro decided to take personal control of the operation. On 20 April, the invaders finally surrendered, with the majority of troops being publicly interrogated and then sent back to the U.S.
The failed invasion strengthened the position of Castro's administration, who proceeded to openly proclaim their intention to adopt socialism and strengthen ties with the Soviet Union. This led eventually to the events of the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962. The invasion was a major embarrassment for U.S. foreign policy. John Kennedy ordered a number of internal investigations across Latin America.

The aftermath?

Why We Still Love...Michael Vick!

This is a story you will not see on any "Headlines".

Mike...we love you!  Keep making good decisions!

From NBC Sports:

Michael Vick has nearly paid off his bankruptcy debt

Michael Vick APJets quarterback Michael Vick paid his debt to society when he spent time in federal prison for his conviction on dog fighting charges.
Now, he’s paid back most of the rest of the debt he accumulated.
According to Darren Rovell of ESPN, Vick has paid back most of the $18 million he owed to creditors when he filed for bankruptcy in July 2008.
Vick has been able to pay them back by living on a budget of $300,000 per year, which seems luxurious except he’s made more than $49 million from the Eagles and the Jets over that span. (OK, that still sounds luxurious).
“I feel blessed because I came out and found myself in a position where I had a lot of people that really believed in me, people who gave me an opportunity,” Vick said. “At the time, it wasn’t about trying to fulfill all the bankruptcy needs. I was trying to fulfill all the needs that I had in my life because I had nothing.”
“I had never been on a budget before, so I had to pay attention to everything that I was doing. Now I realize that I don’t need certain things I bought back in the day, like a new boat.”
Vick’s financial discipline — even if a little late — should be commended, as he could have chosen a form of bankruptcy which would have allowed him to avoid most of his debts.

Blacks...being..."Uncouth"

Everyone has an opinion...regarding what happened in Ferguson, Missouri.

A grand jury refused to bring charges against the police officer who shot an un-armed  black teenager.

Most black people I know...while we don't necessarily agree with the decision...We applaud the process.

The legal process.   The legal process many blacks gave their lives...for us to benefit from.

It's the "Niggas"...and the thugs...who don't get it.   They are the ones burning cop cars and  businesses....Some even black owned!

Yes...you are really standing up for ...and making a statement for...Michael Brown...as you rush out of a looted store with 5 pairs of "AirJordans"  in your possession.

And it's real smart...to burn police cars...which your tax dollars paid for.   Burning down your own neighborhood....

For the cause...

Really?

Here's what out dear friend,  Charles Barkley had to say...
