Same Old....Georgia

The natives are getting a little bit restless...in this small, southern college town.

Here we go again.   Georgia....contender or pretender?

Georgia ...once again gets a high profile game with a high profile opponent.   Last time this happened....UGA sleptwalked  through a 35-7 dismantling at the hands of South Carolina.

This time it's Florida in the annual "cocktail party down in Jacksonville.

Georgia...supposedly has all those "NFL"  athletes.  Top 10 recruiting classes.  Unlimited resources.

Yet......when  given the opportunity to turn heads on a national stage...these dogs turn into pups.

Saturday.....we shall see.

Bulldogs face tough task in No. 3 Gators

Georgia will finish the month of October just how it began the month - with a high-profile game against an unbeaten opponent.

It's About ....Damn Time!!!

Finally......

After losing 18 of the last 21 games against Florida......Georgia wins!

Despite giving up a 91 yard kick-off return.......missing 2 field goals.......and a quarterback who struggled mightily .......

Georgia found a was to win.

From the Athens Banner Herald:

Richt, Bulldogs leave Jacksonville jubilant after rare win over Gators

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - There's something about beating Florida that brings out the raw emotion in Georgia coach Mark Richt and his family. His 15-year old son Zach jumped to hug him after the No. 22 Bulldogs' 24-20 win Saturday.

Freshman football player kicked off team after DUI arrest

September 27, 2010 by DAVID MITCHELL

Filed under Crime & Courts, Football, News, Sanford Knows Best, Sports
After a forgettable weekend on the field, Georgia football suffered further loss with yet another player arrest.

Linebacker Demetre Baker was kicked off the team following an arrest early Sunday.
“Demetre has been dismissed from the football team,” head coach Mark Richt said.
BAKER
Baker, 19, was booked by the Athens-Clarke County Police at 4:26 a.m. Sunday and charged with DUI, underage possession and improper driving, according to police records.
He was released at 11 a.m. on $2,500 bond.

Baker, a freshman, is the 10th Georgia football player arrested and fourth dismissed from the team in the past year.

Previous dismissals include quarterback Zach Mettenberger, linebacker Montez Robinson and punter Trent Dittmer.

“We have had enough issues off the field that it’s been a big distraction and sad for our young men and for our program and the University and everybody else,” Richt said.

Referencing the severity of the punishment, Richt said Baker “was fully aware of the possible consequences that resulted from this kind of decision.”

The arrest came just hours after the Bulldogs suffered a 24-12 loss to Mississippi State in Starkville, Miss., for the first time since 1974.

Baker did not accompany the team for the game according to the team’s dress-out roster.

Baker, a native of Orange Park, Fla., had not played in a game for the Bulldogs this season and was expected to redshirt.

Richt said he had not yet addressed the team and that they would meet today as scheduled.

Time ....for ....Some Changes.....

We ...rarely .....make posts...on the weekends.........but........

Can't help this one. Take a look:

Florida 41, Georgia 17

The annual ........."cocktail party".

The game started.......with UGA....using yet another gimmick.....Black helmets........black pants....

Note to Georgia: If you have to revert to gimmicks......then .....you're not that good.

Georgia just got humiliated ...........on national TV......and ..........it was not even that close.

Joe Cox........the UGA quarterback........threw three interceptions.........and it just got worse.

This Georgia team......is not that good.

Too many penalties ............no rushing yardage.......equals.........losses.

Our take?

Fire the entire coaching staff........

Georgia had a bye week..........a whole week off to prepare.........it looked....in this game....Florida had the week off.

Totally ......unacceptable......

Defensive Coordinator........FIRED!!!

Offensive Coordinator........FIRED!!!

Head Coach????????

Fired..........

Mark Richt might have been the right man for the job........10 years ago.....but this is 2009....and with Urban Meyer, Nick Saban ........and others.......

Mr. Richt........is a little out of his league.

An Uprising...........in Athens

In this small, southern, college town......

The natives are circling the wagons......the "Bulldawg Nation".....is up in arms.....the sky is falling....it's doom and gloom.

For their beloved University of Georgia football team.......is 3-3. and has lost 2 games in a row....(to then 4th ranked LSU, 20-13.....and last Saturday to an un-ranked Tennessee team, 45-19.)

"Fire Mark Richt!!!"......."Fire (Defensive Coordinator) Willie Martinez!!!!"......"Fire (Offensive Coordinator) Mike Bobo!!!"........"Bench QB Joe Cox!!!!"......and finally, "Fire the Bulldog mascot, Uga VII!!!!"

These headlines saturated message boards all across the south.

Blind passion...can be a dangerous thing. Expectations can be even more dangerous.

Last year, these very same dogs.......were pre-season #1....in everybody's poll. Losses to Alabama, Florida, and Georgia Tech......rendered them to a 10-3 record.....but still ended up in the top 10 in the final poll.

This season........UGA started out ranked #15......despite losing Matthew Stafford (the #1 pick in the NFL draft), the best QB in the nation....and losing Knowshon Moreno (drafted 7th), arguably , the best running back ....

Still........these blind loyalist.....thought all Georgia needed to do was ..."reload"......and still contend for the SEC championship.......as well as the national championship.

To the "Bulldawg Nation": Take the blinders off. Look to the north.....there is Tennessee, with a young new coach in Lane Kiffin......Look to the west, with that beast of a team (Alabama), coached by Nick Saban......and ....yes....look to the south, with Florida, led by a guy named, Urban Meyer.

The competition in the SEC is brutal......gone are the
days where one team beats every opponent, 50-7.......and goes 12-0.

Reality check.........since coming to Georgia, Mark Richt is 85-23....with 2 SEC championships, and 5 top 10 finishes......in the last 7 years.

Mark Richt did not .......get ...."dumb" over the winter. He will assess the season......evaluate the coaching stall........make changes where needed.......and all will be well.....in the "Bulldog Nation".

Hump Day News & Views

Election 2008.........

I have voted.....Monday.......in the "early voting" system in this state of Georgia. There have been war stories galore about people waiting in line for up to 8 hours.

I ..........was in and out.......in less than 60 minutes.

I urge all of you........if your state has "early voting"........take advantage.....vote this week.

And if you cannot ..........please .....please.......vote on November 4th.

Republican or Democratic..........let your vote be heard.

This young rookie.......looks mighty old to me......

Yes ........Greg Oden.....he of the Portland Trailblazers........the 19 year old.......going on 50. Oden finally made his NBA debut last night after missing all of last year with injuries. And folks.......he is not ready. He didn't even last a half. Went out with a foot injury....and the L A Lakers blew out his team, 96-76...... Uh....Greg? This is an 82 game season here..... Another first round bust.

This guy has never been healthy.......Too much weight.......too little muscle.......his knees and feet cannot support his 6' 11" frame.

Too bad.......from what I hear.......he is really a nice guy.......with a great attitude.

Mini World Series game.....

Tonight, Major League Baseball will attempt to complete game five between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Tampa Bay Rays.......

Philly leads the series 3 games to 1. The game will be resumed in the bottom of the 6th inning, tied 2-2. Simply put........the Phillies have to get 6 outs........and the Rays, 9.

Look for this thing to go about 14 or 15 innings....and still not end until the wee hours of the morning. MLB deserves everything they get for selling their soul to Fox Sports.

By the way.........last we checked.......there were "lake effect" "ice showers" in the greater Philadelphia area.....

Mums the word.......

As in the gag order........ordered by Florida coach, Urban Meyer.......

If you have watched any of ESPN this week .......you have been constantly reminded of Georgia's end-zone celebration last year........(the entire 95 Bulldog players danced in the end-zone, following their first touchdown).

Meyer has instructed his Gator team to not dare speak out on the topic. Mark Richt of Georgia is also tip-toeing around the controversy.

Memo to Florida..........and ESPN........Georgia beat Florida last year, because they hit them in the mouth.....strong armed Tim Tebow........and made more big plays.....simple.....

This game Saturday features two of the most talented teams in the country........and the winner will be the team that best executes its offensive and defensive schemes.

Nothing more ........nothing less......

What happened last year........means nothing.

Things.......I think I think...........

Fall is fast becoming one of my favorite seasons........No humidity........beautiful scenery .......

TNT's NBA studio show .......is the best in all of sports with Ernie Johnson, Jr, Kenny Smith, and Charles Barkley.

Why can't Fox News........just admit they are a spokes-person for the republicans.......and be done with it....I would respect them more.....Instead of hiding behind, "fair & balanced....you decide"..... We have decided.......and you are so.......biased.

When does Hockey begin?

Just kidding........

Have a great "Hump Day"........

Black......is a Beautiful thing!

Black is beautiful......and black was beautiful Saturday afternoon at Sanford Stadium in Athens. The Georgia Bulldogs donned black jerseys for the first time in the schools' history. The normal home UGA uniforms feature the tradition red jersey and the famed silver britches. But......on this November day.....the dawgs shocked the bulldog nation by switching into all black tops. It was the biggest kept secret since ......well...we can't even remember. The players didn't even know. (We're told only the seniors knew, but were sworn to secrecy). The dawgs even did their pregame warm ups in the red Jerseys and sent their captains out in red. But somewhere .....back in the locker room -- where players were getting their last minute inspirations -- or whatever -- the lights went out. And when they came back on.....Poof............the black jerseys were all laid out. The crowd noise was at an all time feverish pitch as the black jerseyed dawgs exited from the tunnel. The place went absolutely nuts.... Georgia was keyed up...the fans were ....well fanatical....and Auburn? Well ....on their first possession....their first play...Quarterback Brandon Cox threw his first of 4 interceptions .....resulting in a 3-0 Georgia lead. That set the tone of the game, even though Auburn would fight back to take a 20-17 lead midway into the 3rd quarter. After that......Knowshon Moreno and company put up 28 unanswered points on their way to a 45-20 victory.
It really is not the color of a jersey....it is the mind set of the players within it.....To the Georgia players...on this particular day....black....meant everything. And they played like it was their last game on earth....they had fun....they made plays....and they won the game. We credit Georgia head coach Mark Richt on becoming very original in motivation tactics for his team. The SEC is a war. The Bulldogs got slammed at Tennessee earlier.................in which Richt said..." I've got to get these guys energy level up". He found a way at Florida......and he found a way Saturday against Auburn. It is so tough to keep the minds of 19 to 21 year olds totally focused on the task at hand. Coach Richt........we salute you.......however.....you must remember this............
"Once you go black......you never want to go back".
