Jim Mora has been fired by the Seattle Seahawks,
according to Fox Sports' Jay Glazer, who announced the news on his Twitter feed.
The report has since been confirmed -- and is not
that surprising;
FanHouse's Matt Snyder speculated (correctly now) last week that Mora seemed a likely candidate to be removed based on the Seahawks firing their GM a month ago.
Mora had been the "coach-in-waiting" behind
Mike Holmgren for several years but in his first year with the Seahawks -- his fourth year as a head coach, including three with the Falcons -- Mora's 5-11 record with a team that many thought would challenge for the NFC West was simply not enough.
It's believed too, that the Seahawks are doing some proverbial house cleaning and are willing to spend money in order to return to NFL prominence.
Update: In what most certainly classifies as shocking news, the Seahawks are pursuing
Pete Carroll of Southern California and apparently there is "mutual interest."
