"Nappy Headed Ho".....
What a difference four years makes. Time....has a way of dealing with ...stuff.
That phrase, "Nappy headed Ho"....cost a man his job.
Now.....it's just a punch line in a popular NBC sitcom.
Courtesy....New York Daily News:
Tracy Morgan turns 'nappy-headed ho' into a punchline on '30 Rock'
By David Hinckley
The phrase “nappy-headed ho” wasn’t a joke to radio host Don Imus, his critics or his supporters in 2007 when it got him fired from WFAN and MSNBC.
Last night on the NBC sitcom “30 Rock,” it became one.
Or at least the setup for one.
On the 100th“30 Rock” show, a double-length production even more packed than usual with inside jokes and internal references, one of the running gags was that comedian Tracy Morgan’s character, Tracy Jordan, was threatening to quit the show because he couldn’t get anyone upset at him.
That was part of a larger gag, also driven by Alec Baldwin’s Jack Donaghy character, that it’s impossible to be taken seriously when you’re a TV actor.
In any case, Morgan/Jordan lamented that one point that he had called someone a “nappy-headed ho,” but even that didn’t get people angry, “because apparently it’s okay” if he says it.
Imus triggered a firestorm in April 2007 when he offhandedly repeated the incidental description of the Rutgers women’s basketball team as “nappy-headed hos.”
He apologized, though it didn’t save his job, and since he returned to the radio in his present position as WABC morning host, he has pointedly steered away from that sort of reference.

Things We Learned..........From the Weekend
Everybody's coming after Georgia.......
Number one in the pre- season means everybody is taking pot shots at Georgia......Fans, sports-writers, foes.......
But when I heard that even Russia had invaded Georgia late last week.....I must say.....I got a little concerned.
Oh that's a different Georgia?
Never mind.
NBC has these Olympics covered.....24/7.......
The Peacock network that is NBC really has this 29th Olympiad covered. With it's broadcasting family consisting of NBC, MsNBC, CNBC, and the USA network, there is not an hour in the day when the Olympics are not shown.
With the 12 hour time difference.......it works for me. Whether it's Beach Volleyball, boxing, swimming, bike racing, or gymnastics........it's on.....somewhere.
And that's a good thing.
R.I.P...........Isaac Hayes.....
The man who brought us "The Theme from Shaft" music...........wrote the song "Soul Man" made famous by Sam & Dave.......and later starred in Comedy Centrals' "South Park", died yesterday, at the age of 65.
Ironically , Hayes is co-starring with recently deceased Bernie Mac, in a film titled , "Soul Man".....to be released later in the year.
Is that weird.........or what?
Meaningless games of pre-season.....
The NFL got into full pre-season game playing.......and yes it was all .......for the most part.....meaningless. The New England Patriots sat out 26 of their better players.
I don't blame them ..........There is too much invested these days.......and injuries can just ruin a season.
A hint..........of fall in the Air?
Yes........it was faint.....it wasn't much.....
But I could have sworn over this past weekend.....I noticed......Fall is in the air.
Morning temperatures were around 60 degrees.......Cool , for August, in this southern college town.
Relief.....from the dog days of summer........
Won't be long now...

Happy Trails.....Red Lasso

We discovered Red Lasso about 3 months ago........
A really unique site that recorded shows on NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX, ESPN......and others, and made them available to bloggers to imbed clips on our blogs.
Their video quality was so much better than YouTube........
But .......they have been sued...........copy write infringement ...........
This is an article from Cnet.com:
RedLasso has suspended access to its video search-and-clipping site two days after NBC Universal and Fox filed a copyright suit against the company.
File this one under inevitable.
RedLasso, which announced the closure in a statement on Friday, recorded
TV shows and then indexed clips so users could find, pull, and embed them on other Web sites. They did so without permission. The company had suggested that it was in talks to obtain licenses. RedLasso will keep operating its Radio To Web service, which allows radio stations to search and upload their content to their own Web site.
In May, NBC Universal flatly denied that it had any affiliation with RedLasso when the entertainment company sent a letter accusing RedLasso of "building a business based on the unauthorized syndication of" the content owners' shows.
The era of companies following in YouTube's shoes is over. No more are the studios going to sit back and allow tech start-ups to use their content to grab eyeballs and then negotiate terms later.
Not when they are giving their content away free, at sites like Hulu, the video site created by NBC Universal and News Corp. Anyone can go to Hulu and grab embed code for feature films and many NBC Universal shows without violating the law.
"We are very disappointed in the actions of select networks," RedLasso said in a statement. "We believe we have always acted within the law and have been respectful of the networks' rights. Unfortunately, they have forced our hand."
So ........there....it's done.
Red Lasso, you will be missed........And we here at 5 on Five can no longer provide our readers with state of the art video of clips that are meaningful and useful to this blog.
Well.......at least we still have..........YouTube.
