The University of Tennessee successfully defended its womens NCAA basketball championship last night by defeating an out manned (or in this case...out womanned ) Stanford team. In what was billed as "Candace versus Candice".......... Candace Parker got the better of Stanford All-American Candice Wiggins. Parker finished with 17 points and 9 rebounds despite playing with a sore shoulder. The Pat Summitt coached Lady Vols won there 8th national championship........all under Ms. Summitt..........We applaud Tennessee..........and we dare the Don Imus'es of the world to say........anything........about the truly gifted sisters.
The Atlanta Braves have a record of 3 wins and 5 losses. Ironically, all 5 losses have been by one run. The bull pen has blown 3.
The Detroit Tigers are the only winless team in all of major league baseball. A few years ago, this wouldn't be that big of a story.........But guess what........Detroit has the 2nd highest payroll in the league......Only those New York Yankees pay more for their stars. And at 0-7 , the natives are getting restless.
Henry (Hammering Hank) Aaron's mother passed away Monday after a short illness. Estella Aaron died in an Atlanta hospital. Estella and Herbert Aaron had eight children, including Henry and Tommy, who also played for the Milwaukee and Atlanta Braves. Our condolences and prayers are with the entire Aaron family.
In ....the "Who really cares" department.....The NHL (that's National Hockey League) begins its play-offs tonight. Years ago, when the team here in the ATL was the Atlanta Flames, 6eVoice and myself went to see a game at the Omni. We had no idea of the rules or anything.....we cheered.......when everybody else cheered..........booed when they booed.......and ....we didn't see a good fight all evening. Anyway, in 2 months, they will finally crown a champion. If no one sees it...........does it really count?
Memphis..........choked....end of story. Up by 9..........2 minutes to play.......Kansas cannot win the game.....but.......Memphis found a way to lose it. At the foul line.....the achilles heel of this team all season long.....finally manifested itself Monday night. It's a shame. Had to feel bad for Memphis. But ..........you can look at it this way.......Memphis won the game.....But Kansas scored more points................ Huh?
The Masters starts tomorrow........Tiger Woods versus 150 golfers and the course itself. People..........we are watching history here. Not to mention some of the best cut lawn grass I have ever seen. How do they get it so low...........and so green...........with no weeds?
Finally...........fired up the riding mower today........cut our own lawn.......front, back, and side. You know......even though there is an awful lot of weeds.......when you mow a lawn......and it's freshly cut........it's all green......and it looks good.
Finally, finally........Your Atlanta Hawks are trying to blow their chances of making the NBA play-offs. They were blown out by Indiana last night. Were you really expecting more?
Finally, finally, finally.....Did I mention.........Memphis choked? I did? Well .......they did. And that 38-2 record means nothing..... Memphis, you had your one chance.....you blew it.......you choked........you........you......you got me stuttering.... and I don't normally stutter.
