Hump Day News & Views

59 days..........

As in 59 days to kick-off. Yes.......it's a fact. In just 59 days, the Georgia football bulldogs will open their 2008-09 season against Georgia Southern between the hedges in Athens.

And.......it couldn't come sooner. Several Georgia players have been in the news lately........from assault charges to bar room brawls to DUI's........Too much down time.

Let the season begin............sooner than later......any news now.......is only going to be bad.

A Sister act?

At this years' Wimbledon.......it sure looks like it. Venus and Serena Williams are again on a collision course to meet in the finals. All of the top 4 seeds are gone. The William sisters are in the semi-finals against beatable foes. Get ready..........Venus versus Serena.....for the Wimbledon championship.

0-16..........and sinking.

Yes........the WNBA Atlanta Dream is 0-16. The worst record ever in the league. This thing stinks.....and it smells too........

Pay what ever it is you have to pay............and get out.....now!

Don't embarrass the league.......or the city of Atlanta anymore. You tried.....it failed.....move on. Fold up the tents......pack up the luggage.......and......be gone.

The Devil made 'em do it.........

We are at the halfway point of the MLB season and low and behold........the Tampa Bay Devil Rays have the best record in all of baseball. Except.......this team is no longer called, the Devil Rays. Tampa has dissed the Devil.......They renamed themselves, simply , the Tampa Bay Rays.

And they are taking the American League by storm........and great pitching, hitting, defense.........The Rays......are a very good baseball team.....and........more importantly..........they dissed..........the Devil.

  1. Dude, hope you never face a tough time in your life...the Dream should give up and quit because an expansion team that started with 13 players (no better than 7th best on each team) from other teams and had less than two weeks to practice together has struggled a bit? Despite almost winning 4-5 of the games? And losing their best post player for most of that time due to injury?

No one likes to lose so many games, but you gotta take a slightly longer term view in that situation man...fortunately the fans are still coming out and see the effort and understand the situation and aren't giving up as quickly as you....

  2. Yeah, the Dream should just give it up. Like that football team from Tampa Bay that went 0-14 that year and stunk up the joint. They were an embarrassment to the NFL. Thank God they left the league after that first year, never to return.

What were their names again? Pirates or something.

  3. It's people like you who give a bad name to sports fans.....Do you realize Colonel Sanders Kentucky Fried Chicken recipe was reject by over 1000 restaurants? It was the 1009th visit where he was successful in selling the secret. The rest is history.... You impatient and arrogant people kill me! Go Dream! Don't give up!

  4. Didn't know there was this much passion for the WNBA.....much less the Atlanta Dream. However: let me remind you, 2 WNBA teams folded in 2002...after just 2 years in the league, (Miami Sol & Portland Fire). This is not your NFL, people. No huge TV contracts (besides a game of the week on ESPN). This is real life.... The weak....get eaten....0-16....doesn't cut it. I stand by the post.

  5. Keep standing by your weak post...if you are going to cite the early folding teams, at least do your homework to understand why they folded....early on there were some NBA owners forced to add a W team who honestly did not want one...over time that shook out and now the league has 7 independent owners and 7 teams owned by NBA owners in same market...the Dream has managed to average over 8k attendance despite the tough start...been to a Hawks game last season on a weeknight and seen that many people actually making noise? And the ESPN TV deal is for something like 8 years with teams actually getting $ from the deal.....

The weak...are the fans who pile on an expansion team and pick on an easy target without doing their homework....the strong are the teams actually providing their fans a great game experience and building loyalty that other ATL teams only wish they had....
