"Junior" disses Atlanta

Remember when? When ......

Big time Major League baseball free agents use to seem to jump at the chance to play for a class organization ....in the Atlanta Braves.......and a "player's coach" ....in manager Bobby Cox.

Fred McGriff, Andres Galaragga, Greg Maddox............to name a few.

But........my , my..........how times are a changing. This past off-season alone, the Braves have been spurned by free agents, pitcher Derek Lowe, shortstop Rafael Furcal, pitcher A. J. Burnette...........And don't forget, John Smoltz has taken he and his 41 year old arm north , to Boston.

And now? Add Ken Griffey , Jr. to that list. As late as Wednesday morning, the Atlanta papers had us believing it was a done deal:
Braves interested in signing Griffey Jr.

Today........
these headlines greeted Atlanta..........and their fans:

Griffey picks Mariners

Yes, Ken Griffey, Jr. decided to go back home. Home to the team that first signed him some 20 years ago. Seattle drafted "Junior" number one overall in the 1987 draft.

While we're happy for this "kodak moment" of the prodigal son going home......it is sad to see a once powerful and classy organization like the Braves..........lose out.......once again.......on another star free agent.
