Gut Check.......Atlanta Hawks......

You lose......4 in a row.....

You have a team meeting.....You beat the lowly ....New Jersey Nets... Now you play....the Boston Celtics......

Are you ......the "haves".......or the  "have nots'?

The Atlanta Hawks.......sent a message tonight.

Crawford scores 18 as Hawks beat Celtics 93-85

ATLANTA (AP)—Jamal Crawford(notes) scored 18 points, including two crucial 3-pointers in the fourth quarter, and the Atlanta Hawks beat the Boston Celtics for the second time this season, 93-85 Friday night.
Trailing 45-39 at the half, the Hawks dominated the third quarter and pushed their lead as high as 15 points. Boston fought back and pulled within two in the final period, but Crawford converted a four-point play after being knocked into the seats on a 3-pointer from the corner. Then, Atlanta’s valuable sixth man swished an even longer shot from behind the arc that sealed it with 52.5 seconds left.
All five Atlanta starters scored in double figures, including Mike Bibby(notes) with 17. Paul Pierce(notes) scored 21 to lead the Celtics.

You're Fired!!!!!!!! Part 4

Another one.....bites the dust:

Jim Mora Fired by Seahawks

Jim Mora Fired by SeahawksJim Mora has been fired by the Seattle Seahawks, according to Fox Sports' Jay Glazer, who announced the news on his Twitter feed.

The report has since been confirmed -- and is not that surprising; FanHouse's Matt Snyder speculated (correctly now) last week that Mora seemed a likely candidate to be removed based on the Seahawks firing their GM a month ago.

Mora had been the "coach-in-waiting" behind Mike Holmgren for several years but in his first year with the Seahawks -- his fourth year as a head coach, including three with the Falcons -- Mora's 5-11 record with a team that many thought would challenge for the NFC West was simply not enough.

It's believed too, that the Seahawks are doing some proverbial house cleaning and are willing to spend money in order to return to NFL prominence.

Update: In what most certainly classifies as shocking news, the Seahawks are pursuing Pete Carroll of Southern California and apparently there is "mutual interest."

Ice......Ice ...Baby......

Spaghetti Junction....sometimes....I take that route.

So glad.......I did not take it this morning.   Of all the roads for the D.O.T. to miss....this one was unforgivable.

This is "spaghetti junction"......a maze of highway crossroads.....above the ground.    Of course,  these roads would be the first to freeze over......and the D.O.T.......forgets....or simply miss......salting it down?

My.....my.....

A mere 27 car pile-up ensues....

Only in ........Atlanta.

From Fox 5:

27-Vehicle Wreck Blocks I-285 Ramp

Updated: Friday, 08 Jan 2010, 4:58 PM EST

Hump Day.....News & Views

The first......"Hump Day"........of 2010!

51 more to come.  Things we are following......and you should be too:

Arenas suspended indefinitely by NBA (AP)

In this Jan. 5, 2010 photo, Washington Wizards' Gilbert Arenas(notes) watches a free-throw attempt in the first half of an NBA basketball game against the Philadelphia 76ers in Philadelphia. Arenas was suspended without pay Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010, by commissioner David Stern, who determined the Washington Wizards guard's behavior made him
Washington Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas was suspended without pay by NBA commissioner David Stern on Wednesday for behavior that made him "not currently fit to take the court." A day after Arenas was photographed before a game in Philadelphia pointing his index fingers, as if they were guns, at his teammates, Stern warned the three-time All-Star that his conduct will "ultimately...

The two worst places to be caught we illegal guns are........New York City and Washington D. C.   Will these fools .......ever learn?

Redskins give Shanahan $35M, 5-year deal (AP)

Newly hired Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan pauses during a news conference at Redskins Park on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010 in Ashburn, Va. Shanahan signed a 5-year deal, averaging approximately $7 million annually with has final approval on personnel decisions.
At the podium stood Mike Shanahan, who has a $35 million, five-year contract that gives him final authority over football decisions as head coach and executive vice president of the Washington Redskins. Seated at a nearby table was Bruce Allen, the first general manager Dan Snyder has hired in 11 years of owning the team.

One of the best football minds that ever lived.....There is hope for the Redskins!

Dawson finally elected to Hall of Fame (AP)

Former baseball player Andre Dawson talks to reporters during a news conference at Landshark Stadium in Miami, Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010. Dawson has been elected to the Hall of Fame while Bert Blyleven and Roberto Alomar fell just short of earning baseball's highest honor.
Andre Dawson got up at 6 a.m. and went to the gym. Before going back home, he took a detour from his usual routine on the day Hall of Fame voting is announced. "I went by a cemetery to visit my mom and also my grandmother," he said. "It's the first time I had done that. I just felt a little bit more optimistic about this year, and I just wanted to share a few things at that grave...

I'm sorry.....maybe I just don't fully understand the process.  Let's see.....for 8 years....Andre Dawson was on the Hall of Fame ballot....For 8 years....he came up short.  Now.....in the 9 year......He's voted in.     Did he suddenly become a better player?   He wasn't good enough ...for 8 years........but .....now is?   This is why we slam MLB ....They ....just .....don't get it.   If I were Andre.....I'd say, "Thanks....but no thanks.....If you really wanted me in your Hall of fame......You should have elected me.....year 1."

Hump Day........short shots:

Georgia Tech.......laid an egg last night.

UGA mens'  basketball team.....beat Tech.....again....Tech hasn't won at Georgia since 1976!

The city of Atlanta.....will come to a halt Thursday......1/2 inch of snow is predicted.

Still .......I cannot.....and will not.......get into this "twitter" thing.

Hey.......have a great ......"Hump Day"!

Things ....We Learned......From the Week-end

2010......"Twenty Ten"......"Two thousand & ten"........"K2-ten"......"two-oh, one-oh"......everyone has their own way.....to say it.    But .....the new year is indeed here.

The Atlanta Falcons....went 9-7 this year....doesn't seem like much....but for the first time in their 44 year history.......the birds had back to back....winning seasons.

What's wrong .....with the Atlanta Hawks?   Losers or 3 in a row.......

The NY Giants........must have thought they were playing in the era of a 14 game schedule....they took the last two games off.

And what happened to.......the Denver Broncos?   6-0 start.....to missing the play-offs.

Nobody is laughing.....at the Dallas Cowboys and the San Diego Chargers...right about now.

Is .....the college bowl season......over.....yet?

Man........it's cold outside.........but........it is .......January....

Guest Post.....from...."Hunker Down Dawg"

If you liked.......

The Movie,  A few Good Men.......

You're gonna love this post featuring Mike Leach of Texas Tech and the alleged mistreatment of a football player.

From the good folks at ....

Hunker Down Dawg

Enjoy:

Mike Leach is Colonel Jessep

Monday 12/28/09

Coach Leach to Chancellor Hance: I run my team how I run my team. You want to investigate me, roll the dice and take your chances. I coach in front of 40,000 armed season ticket holders who would kill for me, so don't think for one second that you can come down here, flash your C.V. and make me nervous.

Tuesday 12/29/09

Coach Leach to A.D. Myers: You see Gerry, I can deal with the two-a-days, and the pulled groins, and the high ankle sprains. I don't want too much money, and I don't want medals. What I do want is for you to stand there in those faggoty white patent leather shoes and with your West Texas mouth and extend me some fucking courtesy. You gotta ask me nicely.

Wednesday 12/30/09

A.D Myers: Coach Leach, did you order the Isolation?
Attorney Ted Liggett: You don’t have to answer that question!
Coach Leach: I'll answer the question!
[to Myers]
Coach Leach: You want answers?
Myers: I think I'm entitled.
Coach Leach: You want answers?
Myers: I want the truth!
Coach Leach: You can’t handle the truth!
[pauses]
Coach Leach: Son, we play in a conference that has great teams, and those great teams have to be defeated by men with guts. Whose gonna do it? You? You, Chancellor Hance? I have a greater responsibility than you could possibly fathom. You weep for Adam James, and you curse the Pirate. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know. That James's isolation, while tragic, probably saved games. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves games. You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me as that coach, you need me as that coach. We use words like cover two and zone read. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent coaching football. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who cheers and accepts praise for the glory of the very victories that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide them. I would rather you just said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a playbook, and start coaching. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to.
Myers: Did you order the Isolation?
Coach Leach: I did the job I...
Myers: Did you order the Isolation?
Coach Leach: You’re GD right I did!
Coach Leach: [Hance dismisses the Board of Regents after Leach's revelation about the Isolation] What is this? What's going on? I did my job, I'd do it again!
[stands up defiantly]
Coach Leach: I'm gonna get on a plane and go on back to the Alamo Bowl.
Chancellor Hance: You're not going anywhere, Coach. ESPN... vilify the Coach!
[Joe Schad takes his post]
Chancellor Hance: Coach McNeill?
Coach Leach: What the hell is this?
Coach McNeill: Coach Leach, you have lost the right to coach the Raiders. Any statement you make...
Coach Leach: I'm being fired from coaching? Is that what this is? I'm being fired from coaching? This is funny. That's what this is. This is...
[turning to Myers and lunging at him]
Coach Leach: ...I'm gonna raid your village, plunder your homes and enslave your women! You fucked with the wrong Pirate!
Coach McNeill: Coach Leach! Do you understand you are fired as I have just stated to you?
Coach Leach: [contemptuously] You fuckin' people... you have no idea how to run a football team. All you did was weaken a football program today, Myers. That's all you did. You put winning football games in danger. Sweet dreams, son.

This Rihanna girl.........is pretty .....hot!

We really......have not been that much of a fan of Rihanna.......

But......

Home girl .....is pretty hot.   How is her singing?

From our friends at YBF.com:

Rihanna performs in Abu Dhabi for New Year's Eve
Rihanna went back to her curly top ‘do to perform a New Year’s Eve private performance at the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi, UAE.  It was her first performance there and it looks like they didn’t make her tone down her outfit as rumored.  At all.
But congrats are in order for Ms. Rih Rih.  Her album Rated R reportedly just sold 1 million copies worldwide.  And it only took 5 weeks.

The Washington Bullets......Literally

This is ......an amazing story.  Not the kind of publicity the NBA needs ....starting out the new year.

From our friends at TMZ.com:

Report: NBAers Involved in Armed Standoff

His nickname is Agent Zero, but a new report claims NBA star Gilbert Arenas went 007 on a teammate when he allegedly drew his gun on him during a disagreement over money.

Gilbert Arenas, Javaris Crittendon

Arenas and backup point guard Javaris Crittenton got into it on Christmas Eve, says the NY Post, to the point where the two pulled out their guns in the team's locker room. A source told the paper the argument involved some sort of gambling debt.

Arenas admitted on Christmas Day that he had been keeping unloaded guns in his locker, which he turned over to the team.

Arenas and Crittenton both play for the Washington Wizards, which used to be known as the Washington Bullets.

Happy New Year!

Power Hour on Dale Earnhardt Jr.!

Dale Earnhardt Jr.Dale Earnhardt Jr. was in one hell of a giving mood last night -- dude bought drinks for more than 800 people who walked into his North Carolina bar.

It all went down at the Whisky River bar in Charlotte -- which is owned by the NASCAR stud. We're told Dale decided to pick up the tab for every drink ordered in his place between 8-9pm.

Bartender Shawn Southern -- who was also on VH1's "Tool Academy" -- says the bill was "a ridiculous amount of money" ... but Dale made sure to treat the staff to a "very generous" tip.

And then...there are the Atlanta Hawks...... something went wrong.......in that 4th quarter:

Bye Bye.......Urban Meyer

From ESPN.com:

Meyer to coach final game at Sugar Bowl

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida coach Urban Meyer, who was admitted to a hospital because of chest pains following the Southeastern Conference championship game, is stepping down because of health concerns.
Meyer resigned Saturday, calling it quits after five seasons in Gainesville and two national titles. He goes into the bowl game with a 56-10 record at Florida that includes a 32-8 mark in league play and a school-record 22-game winning streak ended early this month against Alabama.
Meyer, 45, says he consulted with his family, his doctors, school president Bernie Machen and athletic director Jeremy Foley before deciding it is in his best interest to focus on his health and family.
Meyer will hold a news conference in New Orleans on Sunday afternoon and will coach his final game in the Sugar Bowl against Cincinnati on New Year's Day.
"I have given my heart and soul to coaching college football and mentoring young men for the last 24-plus years and I have dedicated most of my waking moments the last five years to the Gator football program," Meyer said in a statement. "I have ignored my health for years, but recent developments have forced me to reevaluate my priorities of faith and family.
"After consulting with my family, Dr. Machen, Jeremy Foley and my doctors, I believe it is in my best interest to step aside and focus on my health and family."
"Coach Meyer and I have talked this through and I realize how hard this was for him to reach this decision," Foley said in a statement. "But, the bottom line is that Coach Meyer needed to make a choice that is in the best interest of his well being and his family. I certainly appreciate what he has meant to the University of Florida, our football program and the Gator Nation. I have never seen anyone more committed to his players, his family and his program. Above all, I appreciate our friendship."
Meyer helped the Gators win two national titles in five years at Florida. He is the only coach to win two BCS titles.
A three-time national coach of the year, Meyer is 95-18 in nine seasons.
Meyer came to Florida from Utah, where he closed out his stint with 16 consecutive wins. He began his head coaching career at Bowling Green in 2001, where he engineered the top turnaround in NCAA Division I-A football, showing a six-win improvement from the previous season. The Falcons rebounded from a 2-9 record with their first winning season (8-3) since 1994.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Seini Henry, daugther of Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry, shows a message to Henry before a memorial service in Westwego, La., Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009. Things ....We Learned......From the Week-end

According to the  scientific calendar......

Winter officially got here at 12:01.....this morning.....this 21st day of December.

However........there's people .......from Virginia to Massachusetts........that would swear....winter came a few days earlier.   As in that blizzard which hit Friday and Saturday.

If not for the 4,000 automobile accidents in Virginia alone......the thousands of stranded airline passengers all along the northeast corridor......

The snow ........was breathtakingly beautiful.......in New York City's,  Central Park.  (pictured)

Things........we learned:

The University of Georgia  mens' basketball team may not be as bad as advertised.  The upset Illinois ,  70-67.

The "Lady Dogs"......of that same school........may be even better than advertised.  They are undefeated.......at  11--0.

The Atlanta Falcons......have ....."heart".   They go into a cold and windy .....Meadow lands,  NJ.........and beat the NY Jets.

The New Orleans Saints......came crashing back down to earth.   Told you!

Why don't..........the Minnesota Vikings......look anything like the world beaters they were....just a month ago?

Are the Cincinnati Bengals........cursed?   First the tragedy of Chris Henry earlier in the week.....then yesterday......the lose a heart-breaker to San Diego .....27-24......on the last play of the game.

The best game .......I saw?    Definitely ........the Pittsburgh - Green Bay  shoot out.   The Steelers had 503 yards.......passing.    Wow!

The college  bowl season.......is in full swing.......wake me on Jan 1st.......when the real games start.

So.........I do.........indeed......feel smarter..........You?

Love.......A Fight.......& Death

I am sure.......she didn't mean what she said.

I am also sure....he didn't mean.....what he said.   For they were lovers.....had children together.    She was his fiance ......

They had a fight.    She took off in a pick-up truck.   He jumped on the back.   He never lived ....to tell his side.   For he.....is dead.

Cincinnati Bengal receiver,  Chris Henry........died today.....of multiple head wounds ....from falling off  that truck.    That truck driven by his fiance.

Details are sketchy at best.    But ......we do know......Chris Henry ......is dead.

Why?

He was only 26 years old.

Why?

Love........a fight.......then death.....

Why?

From the Charlotte Observer:

NFL's Chris Henry dies after Charlotte accident
