Thoughts on a Friday

In this small southern college town...Spring has sprung....and Summer is here.  It is so hot...(insert joke here).

Thank God for air conditioned cars,  houses, and offices.  And to think when we were kids...we played in this heat....from sunrise to sunset.

In today's world...we have Meteorologists warning us to be sure we bring in our pets and plants...out of the heat.

Really?

But this is a time for us sports fans that is a little depressing.  No more NBA....no more NHL.  College football and the NFL are still 3 months away.  So now all we have is that God awful and agonizing slow sport known as Major League Baseball.

Again...thank God for cable TV...and the hundreds of channels for entertainment.

Anyway....here are 5 things...I think ...I think:

1.  I think....what happened the other day in Charleston...was horrible... but ...while tragic....will do a lot in bringing the races together.  No more hate.  No more senseless killings.

2.  I think my new grandson....Kameron...who will be 3 weeks Monday...is even more handsome than I was ...at his age.

3.   I think Tiger Woods has still not recovered from the beating he took from his wife...that Thanksgiving weekend back in 2009.  Officially...it is still called a minor car accident.  But we all know...she went up side his head with a golf club...and he hasn't been the same since.

4.  I thought...LeBron James was the best player on the planet.  He even said so.  With that being said...How do you lose to the Golden State Warriors in the Finals.   If you are the best player in the world.  Just thinking.

5.  Finally...I think I really need a vacation.  Time to stop the world...get off for a week!

Have a great and safe weekend!

A "Buck-eye"..."Black-eye"

It was all that is was built up to be:

Finesse vs. Brute strength

Speed vs. Power

Blitzkrieg vs. Methodical

Old School vs. New School

Traditional vs. New Age

What a game this was.  What a win for Ohio State.   They came...they saw...they dominated.

Here's the Headlines today from Ohio:

And from Oregon:

"Yes.... We Can"!!!

For almost five weeks...the football players on the Ohio State Buckeye team heard the constant rants and commentary about how the Alabama Crimson Tide...would wipe the field with them as their own personal cleaning rags.

ESPN...the World Wide Leader...and their mass of "TalkingHeads"...gave the Buckeyes little chance of winning.

The big bad SEC....Number 1 ranked Alabama!

Even the boys in Vegas had Ohio State 7 point under-dogs.

Well someone forgot to tell coach Urban Meyer.

He used all that negative press...to pump his team.  He prepared them.  And he got this:

Never put your Fate...in Another Teams Hand

The University of Georgia did just that...put their fate....in another teams hand.

The past two weeks, the Bulldog Nation was...In the name of  "Larry Munson"...rooting for Tennessee and Arkansas!

What?

Really?

This is where Georgia is now.   Georgia has to root for rivals 'cuz UGA  failed to take care of their own business.  Namely South Carolina...and Florida.

2 winnable games resulting in ugly losses.

Yes Georgia...you beat Missouri ...34-0.

But check this out:

Why? "Gurley Man" Why?

An open letter to Todd Gurley:

Dear Todd,

We acknowledge you are an exceptional football player with extraordinary talents.  Fact is though...you have never played an entire season.  Last year you got hurt.  This year you were suspended.  4 games.  You then...for reasons we cannot understand ...decided to come back and play in the final 3 games.

Why?

An NFL running back has a career longevity of about 3.5 years.  You were going to be a 1st round draft pick...You should  have told Georgia...thanks...but no thanks.   "I have made the University millions of dollars...let me earn my degree...and move on ...to the NFL."

But no!  Instead...you came back to play in a college football game...tore your ACL on your knee...will need surgery....and possibly...cost you and the family.....millions.

Why?

Hump Day News & Views

In this small southern college town...the natives are all giddy about their beloved UGA Bulldogs.  We had a great Holiday Week-end...with our family.  Loved it all.

So on this Hump Day...let us see what we are following.

A "Gurley Man" Comes

Todd Gurley....he is a coming.  For all the off season hype...This may be the real deal.

Saturday...between those vaunted hedges at Sanford Stadium in Athens...Sir Todd was indeed special.

But...lets put the brakes on.

Just one game.  Don't get all giddy.

But...damn it was fun to watch!

Much "Ado"...About Nothing

"He raped me", the girl alleged...."It was consensual", he said.

And after more than a year gathering evidence from their mutual friends...getting DNA data...investigating details...

The prosecution could not put a case against the "he".

This really small time item made national news because...  "He" is a big time college athlete...who plays a big time position...(Quarterback)....for a big time football power (Florida State).

We don't know the truth.  For it lies somewhere between "He"...and the girl.

What we do know is Florida State will play Duke on Saturday for the ACC Championship and it's star QB...(He)....was somehow involved in all of this.

But now...no charges...no nothing.

Again...much "ado"....'bout nothing.

Grambling....is Crumbling

This is so sad.   It's a long read...but worth it.

From Sports Illustrated:

The powerful Grambling football program that former coach Eddie Robinson built is in danger of falling apart.
The once-proud Grambling St. football program that Eddie Robinson built is in danger of falling apart.

These "Dawgs"...are Just..."Dogs"

The University of Georgia's football team has sank to a new low.  Bad offense, bad defense, bad special teams.

And most of all....bad coaching.

From the Athens Banner Herald:

How about all of the above.

In this small southern college town...the natives are crying today.  For the dogs of UGA lost a football game yesterday.

This Fan...is a Fanatic!

This had to be a Georgia fan.

Embarrassing.

From Fox Sports:

Thoughts on a Labor Day

It is a beautiful day in the neighborhood...in this small southern college town.  Down the road a bit,  Atlanta was rocking this weekend.   The Chick-fil-A  Kickoff Classic.   Dragon Con.   NASCAR.   The Braves.  Even Georgia Tech had a home game.

Holidays are made for family and fun.  We had a blast!  Some stuff we're following in the sports world:

A Costly Celebration

They say if you live long enough...you're liable to see everything.  Well,  what we saw Saturday night in Clemson, South Carolina...is one for the ages.

The University of Georgia not only lost a football game...but lost their leading receiver.

Some time...some where...a long time ago....Georgia must have upset the college football gods.   This kind of thing just doesn't happen.

Bad karma?  Bad coaching?  Bad common sense?

From the Athens Banner Herald:

Jubilation turns to frustration as UGA's Mitchell tears ACL, out for season

Georgia must not only shake off its season-opening loss but come to grips with the absence of one of its best players for Saturday's game against No. 6 South Carolina and the rest of the season.
