Hump Day News & Views

We are suffering in this small southern college town.  It's raining pollen...People with swollen eyes and stuffy noses are all around us.   Sinus infections?  Yeah!  Constant sneezing?  Yeah!

In all my years....I have never seen the pollen count this high.  Our cars are yellow with this stuff.  It's blowing in the wind.

You go outside....and wow!   Yellow pollen dust goes up your nostrils.   Your head aches.  Your lungs congest...I personally have had 3nose bleeds...within the hour.

But...it is ...Hump Day.  So.....let's ....hump:

We have on occasion,  been kind of rough on the subject of women's basketball.   But, be that as it may,  we must recognize a very special feat.

Last night, coach Andy Landers of the University of Georgia Lady Bulldogs earned his 800th career win.

Coach, we salute you!

Andy Landers has been so reluctant to talk about an approaching career milestone, he didn't say one word about it to his players.

At the ..."Summitt"

As you all know......being readers of this blog.....we have trashed women's basketball from time to time.

Women do play a  good fundamental  game.....But .....athletically....women's basketball is so inferior to the game us men are used to playing.....and watching.

We have always said.......a good five high school boys team.....would beat a WNBA team like a drum.

Nothing mean spirited here.....just the facts.....genetics.....

Men are stronger....jump higher....have better reflects......no shame...

Women can give birth to babies......We can't........and we applaud them.

But basketball?

Come on......

But......we do owe a bit of gratitude to a coach.   A coach....we feel...could .....if given the chance.......be a champion on the basketball court of not just women......but men as well.

That woman?

Pat Summitt.....

Ms.  Summitt......could have coached any team......anywhere......any genre.....and succeeded.

As Ms. Summitt......strolls off into the sunset.....we applaud her.....and what she has accomplished.

We ......wish you well.......

Geno Auriemma: 'I Think We Have A Real Spoiled Group Of Fans' 

STORRS, Conn. -- Connecticut fans may have seen their last NCAA tournament game in Storrs for a while.

Coach Geno Auriemma, disappointed that fewer than 6,000 fans showed up at the 10,000-seat Gampel Pavilion for UConn's second-round win over Purdue on Tuesday, said he will ask athletic director Jeff Hathaway not to bid on hosting the tournament for the next five years.

Auriemma said asking fans to attend a regular season, Big East tournament and first two rounds of the NCAA tournament in Connecticut is a lot.

He joked that it might help if UConn won more games. The team has lost one game in the last three seasons.

"I think we have a real spoiled group of fans," Auriemma said.

Pat McKenna, a spokesman for the team, said Wednesday that Auriemma was serious about asking not to host the tournament, but has not yet spoken to Hathaway.

Why we ....hate....."Girls Basketball"

Final score......108-3.

Really?

Yes.......108-3.   A basketball game.......a girls basketball game.

A game?   I think not.   A miss-match.....a massacre......

You've got to be kidding me!

Who scheduled this game?

What are we  teaching the kids?

I can remember when the girls had different rules......6 on 6.....2 on defense...2 on offense....and 2 "rovers".....who could cross the lines.

But the brain trusts wanted more.......a game more like the boys.....5 on 5.....
