Friday Picks

Last week: 4-1

Season: 14-11

Alright, already ........so that picture has absolutely nothing to do with this post. Just Tyra Banks and a bunch of females.....burning their bras? Works for me.

Anyway........on with this weeks picks.

Oklahoma (-6 1/2) over Texas.....

Texas has been under the radar......but.......this series history has taught us it's almost never a close game. Most have been blow outs. And the higher ranked team has won 9 out of 10.......Oklahoma covers.

Mississippi State (+2 1/2) over Vanderbilt.......Last week Vandy killed us. I'm still not a believer. At home, these bulldogs of Mississippi will prevail.

Penn State (-6) over Wisconsin.......Joe Paterno has a good team. Wisconsin showed they are over rated. The Nittany Lions win ........on the road.....and cover.

New York Jets (-5 1/2) over Cincinnati..........Brett Favre threw 6 TD's in his last game. The Bengals are pathetic. If they get down early........this could get ugly.

New Orleans (-6) over Oakland..........The Saints should have beaten Minnesota on Monday Night Football. The team is mad.......and desperate. Oakland is a train wreck with a new coaching staff........etc.

So there.......take it to the bank!

Or .....to Vegas.

Why Obama won't Win ...Come November

We don't want to think it.......but..........

Reality is what it is.......There are white people all across the United States (some are rednecks some aren't).......who believe a black man cannot
occupy the white house....ever.

With that in mind, Mr. Obama needs to be ahead in the polls by at least 10 points come November 4th.

Yes........"White America" may say (when polled) Obama is their choice.......but .....behind closed doors.........in the voting booth.......They'r
e thinking........"Do we really want a nigger.....in the oval office".

This guy is a bit more open his views......

Life .....As a Single Man

Of course.....not your average single man.....Recently divorced Michael Jordan is on the dating scene....big time. And by the way, it's with a white woman. Surprise, surprise..........

Thanks to "The Young, Black, and Fabulous " for these photos:

  • Is This Your New Chick Michael Jordan?

Look who was spotted having an intimate dinner with his new mystery woman at the exclusive Miami restaurant Prime One Twelve last night?:

    Oh yes. Michael Jordan.

The woman is relatively unknown, but apparently they have been very chummy in South Beach lately. And I doubt he would take a simple jump off to such a paparazzi haven “exclusive” restaurant such as this one. So this one might actually be his new main chick. I mean, I know Mike loves some Beckys but clearly he loves all of Beckys friends too. Y’all get what I’m sayin’…

UPDATE: YBF snitches are on the case and Mike’s girlfriend is Yvette Prieto, a Cuban model and former girlfriend of Julio Inglesias, Jr. She and Michael have actually been together for a little while now. Not my fault chicks look like totally different people with and without makeup. I guess I should strike my previous Becky comment. Or not.

Thoughts on a Hump Day

In this southern college town......

It's been pouring down raining.....all day. So that's what rain is. It's been a long time coming....at least 6 weeks. God knows.....we need it.

Bring on the NBA......

The long grueling 82 game NBA season has begun .......sort of. The pre-season started this week. Will the Boston Celtics repeat? Will Kobe get the Lakers back? Will the Atlanta Hawks be competitive again this year? So many questions........so few answers....We will see.

No, I did not watch the debate.....

As in the presidential one featuring John McCain and Barack Obama. I prefer to wait for CNN, FOX News, and the Drudge Report to tell me what was said. I do know one thing.....For McCain to have spent some 26 years in congress, it sure is interesting listening to him vow to "change the culture in Washington". Exactly....just what was Mr. McCain doing......or not doing......in his past 26 years........in Washington? Just wondering....

Why we love.....college football.....

It's weekend match-ups like these ones coming up that keeps the meter running in college football. #1 Oklahoma versus #5 Texas...........#3 LSU at #11 Forida..........#17 Oklahoma State at #3 Missouri...... Something has got to give. Someone has to lose.

Welcome aboard.....TBS...

Awarded their first ever MLB post-season contract last year, TBS struggled early. This year, their telecasts have been on the money. Sharp, technical, and with no goof ups ....the games have been entertaining and informative. With the addition of John Smoltz and Harold Reynolds as color commentators ......and Ernie Johnson, Jr. as studio host....TBS has matched FOX with talent and experience.

Things........I think I think....

I think the next 27 days to the presidential election is going to be pure hell....on us voters.

I think O J Simpson will appeal.....and get off. Do you realize there were no Blacks on this recent jury? What ever happened to being tried by a jury of your peers?

I think T. I.'s new CD........is well ....off the chain. It's amazing what one can do.....under house arrest.....and off the streets. A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

I think..........if "money" is truly the root of all evils........our federal government is sure making a lot of "evil".......with all these bail outs.

Just a few thoughts.......on a rainy Hump Day.

Now.........What'll you do for an Encore?

What an opening ........

We all knew Tennessee's Candace Parker was talented and beautiful.....but........

In her first season in the WNBA, Ms. Parker not only won the "Rookie of the Year" award....she was also named the leagues' "Most Valuable Player ". She's got game. Check this out....from WNBA.com:

Things...We Learned From the Weekend

Th0se Chicago teams...........

Weren't that good after all. In the first round of the MLB play-offs, the Cubs were swept away by the L A Dodgers in 3 straight..........and the White Sox were beaten by the Tampa Bay Rays, 3 games to 1.

This was supposed to be the year. The Cubs boasted the best record in the National League. The Sox forced a 1 game play-off on the final day of the regular season.......won that against Minnesota.....only to get routed by the "worst to first" Rays. The Cubs (Lou Piniella is pictured with this "We 're losing again" look) were even more pathetic......The 3 games against the Dodgers? Not even close! It seemed over night, the Cubs forgot how to hit, throw, and catch a baseball.

That "thud" we heard that even made a reading on the Rickter Scale.......was the millions of fans jumping off that Cub bandwagon.

1908 was the last year the "Cubbies" won a World Series......I'm no math major..........but that's 100 years!............Dare we say? Maybe next year?

A Lambeau Leap....and NFL........stuff........

For the second straight visit to Green Bays' storied Lambeau Field, the Atlanta Falcons beat up on the Packers. Who can forget the last time Atlanta went into the land of "Cheese-heads" during the 2003 wild card play-off game..........Led by Michael Vick, the Falcons trounced Green Bay, 27-7.

This time .......led by their rookie quarterback, Matt Ryan (pictured)..........the "birds" again took care of the ball........the......."Pack".......and the game.......to come away with a 27-24 victory.....It was the first road win of the year. At 3-2..............Atlanta trails Carolina (4-1) for second place in the NFL south division.

Speaking of Carolina, are they that good? Or , are the Kansas City Chiefs....that bad? A week after upsetting the division leading Denver Bronc
os......the Chiefs go into Charlotte , and get mauled, 34-0. Head coach Herman Edwards will not last the season.

Same goes for Detroit Lion coach, Rod Marinelli. Marinelli is 10-26 and 0-4 this year as head of the woeful Lions. They have been beaten in 4 consecutive weeks by scores of, 34-21, 48-25, 31-13, and 34-7.......Ouch!

Defending Super Bowl champion, N Y Giants are showing no signs of a letdown. The "G-men" destroyed the over-rated Seattle Sea Hawks, 44-6. It's only week 5.....but there are just 2 undefeated teams, the Giants (4-0) and the Tennessee Titans (5-0).

This Detroit team....can take a bow.....

For the 3rd time in 6 years, the WNBA's Detroit Shock has won the championship. The Shock swept the San Antonio Silver Stars 3 games to none in the best of five series. Coached by former "bad boy", Bill Laimbeer (who won 2 NBA titles with the Pistons) the Shock entered the season as one of the best teams in the league............but lost thier top post player, Cheryl Ford to a season ending knee injury in July. They sputtered briefly.......but came together in the play-offs........and the rest is history.

Detroit Shock.....we salute you!

Vanderbilt........5-0?

Yes ..........it's true. In our only loss in the Friday Picks.......Vandy beat Auburn, 14-13 to go 5-0 for the first time .....since........(we really had to research this).......1943. Known as the lone academic school in the SEC, the Commodores have long been a joke on the football field. Well now......the joke's on us. Revenge of the nerds?

No "Dream Team".....This Time....

Orenthal James Simpson..........

We have come to know him as O. J.

13 years since Mr. Simpson was acquitted of the double murder charges of his estranged wife Nicole and her friend, Mr. Goldman......

13 hours it took this jury to convict Simpson.....Guilty ........on all 12 counts....including kidnapping and armed robbery.

The 61 year old NFL Hall-of-fame
r, faces a possible life sentence.

Without his infamous "Dream Team" of 1995......O. J. was ........well just like us common folks.

Face it......we all knew O. J. did it! We ........as black people, applauded........because his legal team beat the legal system that had beat up blacks for a hundred years.

But .......this case was different.

There was no Johnnie Cochran........no glove that wouldn't fit........no "Dream Team".

This was a case of O. J. ........refusing to just live his life in obscurity........doing something stupid...........and forgeting who he was.

I feel sorry for his children..........they are now in their twenties........but without a mother.....and now possibly
.......a jailbird dad.

I hear they are keeping Mr. Simpson isolated from other inmates .......for his own security.

What a sad ending....

MLB Regular Season Roundup

It's over.......after 162 games.....6 months.....the Major League Baseball regular season is finally, mercifully over.

And, after 162 games........there was only one team to win 100.....(California Angels, 100-62). Two teams managed to lose over 100 games....(Washington Nationals, 59-102 and Seattle Mariners, 61-101). Only one team lost as many as they won, the Cleveland Indians, 81-81.

The six division winners were, in the NL, Philadelphia, Chicago, and Los Angeles.....in the AL, Tampa Bay, Chicago, and Los Angeles.......with the wild cards going to Boston and Milwaukee.

The New York Mets did their annual choke job.......Minnesota was oh so close.......

The New York Yankees missed the post-season.......for the first time....in a long time.

Chipper Jones of the Braves won the batting title...........John Smoltz is a hit on TBS ........Barry Bonds still is without a team...........Manny is still Manny....and MLB lives on .....

Bring on the play-offs.

Friday Picks

Last Week 3-2

Season 10-10

At
least we are not losing.......Having a .500 record......against the spread....ain't so bad. It's easy to pick winners and losers straight up.......but against the spread? Tough!

So here goes for this week.........

Penn State (-13) over Purdue.....Last week, Purdue lost to Notre Dame by 17.......The Nittany Lions are for real and will cover.

Ohio State (-1 1/2) over Wisconsin......The Buckeyes are getting healthy.....Wisconsin is over-rated.....

Auburn (-4) over Vanderbilt ........Sure, the Commodores are 4-0..........one of their best starts ever..........but........ESPN's Game Day will be in Nashville.......So Vandy is doomed....Plus, this is an excellent Auburn defense. In this game they will also find a little offense.

Indianapolis (-3) over Houston......The Texans (0-3) are not that bad....But Indy is due. With key players coming back from injuries and coming off a bye week, the Colts should roll.

Cincinnati (+17) over Dallas........17 points in the NFL is huge........Yes, the game is in Dallas... Yes, the Bengals are 0-4........Yes, the Cowboys are angry after losing to the Redskins.......but....Cincinnati is better than 0-4......and Coach Marvin Lewis is coaching for his job.....Take the 17 and the Bengals....

See you on Monday..........with the results.

Hump Day News & Views

We're.......baaaaack........

Yes we are.....with a few hours of sleep.....a meal.......a "Mountain Dew"........we're on our game.

Let's see.....

Georgia........get over it. Alabama won....The "Tide" dominated. Case closed. The "funeral"? Well .......Georgia was dressed for the occasion. The new polls? Alabama is #2.....Dawgs drop to #10.

Florida lost..........at the "Swamp". Yes, Mississippi beat the gators 31-30.....in the confines of the Florida home stadium.....Note to Urban Myer, "There is a such thing as a running back....the "spread" will only take you so far".

40%.........As in four out of the top ten college football teams lost.......this past weekend. #1 USC got humiliated by Oregon State, #3 Georgia got blasted by Alabama, #4 Florida lost to Ole Miss, and #9 Wisconsin fell.

Chipper Jones wins the the NL Batting Title.........Cheers to Chipper. In a year in which the Atlanta Braves would hope to quickly erase their 2008 season.......Chipper, wins a batting title....At .364..........Chipper is not only atop of the NL.......but of all of baseball.....Go.......Chipper!

T.O. .......being T.O.............It has begun.......... Terrell Owens is .....complaining...........again......

It happened in San Francisco and Philadelphia ..............Owens starts complaining..........It builds............T.O. alienates his team-mates ........no happy ending. Dallas........are you listening?

162.......and that's not enough? Apparently not........after 162 games.....the Chicago White-sox and the Minnesota Twins were tied.......The MLB solution? Let's play ..........a one game play-off............Why? The Twins soundly beat the "Sox" in the regular season.......but MLB............fails to .....get .......it. Anyway...........the "Sox" won the play-off game........go figure.

40 degrees........in this southern college town..........that's cold! Summer..........where have you gone? Remember...........you were late........you owe us ..........a couple of weeks.

Finally..........It has been one tough week........no more words......

Happy Hump Day!

Italy.........You could be Speaking...."German"

It is not often.....

we dabble in international politics.......but this is one we had to get involved with.

Spike Lee ,
the Black-American film maker, has caused a storm of controversy among Italians with his upcoming movie, "Miracle at St. Anna".

From Yahoo.com:

Film director Spike Lee has set off a storm in Italy with a movie about black American soldiers fighting alongside Italian partisans in World War Two.

Surviving members of the resistance to the Nazi occupation of Italy have taken issue with "Miracle at St. Anna" ahead of the film's Italian release on Friday, distributing protest flyers and accusing Lee of distorting history.

Lee has said he wanted to set the record straight about the role played by black U.S. soldiers in the war. The film is based on a novel by James McBride and focuses on the all-black 92nd Buffalo Division which helped liberate Italy in 1944-45.

Seems like a good idea to me. In most WWII movies..........us blacks were nonexistent. It was as if no black man even fought in the war. Hollywood has always presented blond haired, blue eyed Caucasians as the saviors of the free world. Thousands of Black men fought and paid the ultimate price (their lives) for this country.

Read on.....

At the heart of the dispute is the film's depiction of an infamous 1944 massacre in the Tuscan town of Sant'Anna di Stazzema, where Nazi troops rounded up and killed 560 civilians.

In the film, the massacre is portrayed as a response to the actions of resistance fighters, with one of them betraying the town and colluding with the Nazis -- a version of events that has angered surviving partisans.

Okay........that is so Italian.......The truth hurts......Here's more.....

Lee, who is in Italy promoting the film, has responded to the criticism in his characteristically feisty manner.

"I would not allow anybody to tell me how to make a film, be it a partisan or the president of the United States," Lee told a news conference in Florence on Wednesday after a preview screening, according to Italian media.

"This simply shows that in Italy the wound is still open. ... It is up to Italians to come to grips with their past, not up to me or James McBride or the film," he said.

Spike.......you tell 'em ........Note to Italy: "If not for the courage and fight of the 92nd Buffalo Division, "German" would be your national language."

Another key here..........This is just a movie, a film........It is not an official documentary....never claimed to be one. This is Spike Lee. He makes movies...... His movies often provoke a lot of thoughts. That's Spike Lee.

And shame on you ....Italy.....if you can't get past........your past.

Don't just believe me..........Find out more about the "92nd" from these links:

Buried.......Under a "Tidal Wave"

9/27/08 - Athens, GA- Alabama defenders Eryk Anders (32) and Lorenzo Washington (97) bring down Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford (7) during the second quarter of college football action Saturday night at Samford Stadium in Athens, GA. Stafford was called for intentional grounding on the play. (Jason Harless/The Tuscaloosa News)

The University of Alabama emphatically answered the question posed in this blog a day ago.

We asked, "Whose funeral will it be"?

Well, Georgia surely dressed for the occasion Saturday night in the 41-30 loss to the Tide......Clad in black jerseys for only the 3rd time in history........These dogs were tossed around like stuffed animal toys by an Alabama team seemly on a mission.

Due to the late start (7:45 pm).....I dosed off and missed the entire 1st quarter. When I awoke midway through the 2nd.....Alabama led 17-0.....In what was only a few blinks of the eyes.....it was 31-0. And this game was over.

Georgia's offensive line was overwhelmed.....and could not get a running game going. Stafford had no time to throw.......and receivers dropped balls.

On defense........Alabama out schemed and out blocked the Dogs......Their play-makers made plays.

As disappointing to the Bulldog Nation as this loss was.... in is what it is.

Georgia got beat by a superior team. That means the coaching staff as well as the players have to man up .......get tough.......for this is the SEC.......

In 2 weeks........a desperate Tennessee team comes to Athens.

Hope these Dawgs have learned a thing or two by then.

Happy Trails.......Paul Newman (1925-2008)

Hollywood legend Paul Newman dead at 83

This Hollywood star....with the stunning blue eyes......captivated the American public for several decades.

Who can forget "The Sting", "The Color of Money", "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid".....to name just a few.

And.....his passion for auto racing where his Newman/Haas racing team was very successful.

And........if you've ever been in the condiment aisle of a grocery store.....you have sure seen his Paul Newman salad dressings.

A different kind of Hollywood star.

Mr. Newman........thanks for the memories.....

So.......Whose Funeral will It Be?

This is getting interesting........from the Augusta Chronicle...

UGA Blackout = Funeral?

And then...........from ESPN....

Georgia's man in black fires back ... sort of

This Georgia "Blackout" thing is getting rather testy.

You remember........The Dawgs will don their black jerseys against Alabama on Saturday and will urge their fans to all wear black....in.......the "black out".

Well........an Alabama assistant coach was caught on video (and of course it made its way to YouTube) saying, "They (Georgia) will be wearing black........because they're going to a "motha fuckin" funeral"......Their own!

Ouch!

Ain't SEC football ..........fun?

And who's funeral ....will it be?

ESPN........7:45.......EDT........Saturday....

Friday Picks

Last week: 3-2

Season: 7-8

So close.....
we could easily be 15-0........but that is why Vegas provides the point spreads....Make no mistake about it ..........the "house" .......always wins. So...here's another week, another sucker.......and hopefully some winners.

Ohio State (-18) over Minnesota......Look for the Buckeyes to make a statement in their Big 10 opener....this could get ugly.

Tennessee (+6 1/2) over Auburn.....The tigers are still smarting from the loss to LSU.....Tennessee is backed into a corner.....a must win. Phil Fulmer is fighting to save his job....

Florida State (-5 1/2) over Colorado.......The Seminoles are due for an offensive explosion. Where is all that talent they recruited? It's now.....or never.

Arizona (+1 1/2) over N Y Jets........Arizona is a decent team....and I am not yet sold on these Brett Favre led Jets.

Chicago (+3) over Philadelphia..........Just when you think the Bears are toast.....they tend to win a game like this.....especially at home.

So there..........take it to the bank!

On second thought.....just put it under your mattress......

Ambushed....on the Oregon Trail

Read it..........for it did indeed happen:

Final1234T

For the first time since 1967, the Oregon State Beavers carved up a #1 ranked team. Oddly enough .......the team they beat in '67....was none other than the Trojans from Southern Cal...led by a running back named O J Simpson.

This game.....and the defeat of the seemingly invincible USC......has sent shock waves throughout the world of college football.

How did this happen? USC was a 27 point favorite.......they had a bye week........

Here's how.....USC opened the season with an impressive win over ACC school, Virginia. They then had a week off to prepare for 2nd ranked Ohio State.....and whipped the Buckeyes soundly.

Then.........USC had a week and a half........to read about how great they were.....maybe the best team ever.

And remember..........these are still 18 to 21 year olds.....

But about the game itself..........USC was out played, out hustled , out hit, out coached, and out manned. Oregon had more 1st downs, more yardage, and seemed they were the favorite from the start.

Oregon bunched the bully in the mouth..........USC........fought.........for a while........but ended up limping home to mommy .........

This seems to be an annual occurrence for the Trojans.....Last year, it was the lost to un-ranked Stanford.

The funny thing is ..........tomorrow.....against any of the top 10 teams in the polls.......USC would still be favored....go figure.......

Hump Day News & Views

My, my........

It's Wednesday .....already? Then, let's get started........

Black will be beautiful..........again!

Seems the University of Georgia has taken a liking to the color black. For the 3rd time in less than a year........Georgia will don its black jerseys as the 3rd ranked "Dawgs" take on number 8 Alabama on Saturday in what is being termed , "Black-out 3". Fans are being urged
to wear nothing but black.

Even ESPN is on the case. The popular Game Day pre-game show will air live from the UGA campus .......the first time in Athens in 10 years.

The Atlanta Braves win a one run game....and on the road.....

Yes.......it has happened....Last night , the Braves beat the Phillies , 3-2.......That is their second one run victory in a row after snapping that record setting 29 straight losses in one run games. It's been a tough year for these Braves.....We have been rather hard on them. As we wind down the regular season.....let us give them their due. They did play hard in all games...but this team just did not have the pitching.......and too many injuries derailed the run to the play-offs.

The Yankees ...are officially eliminated from post-season play....

Yes ..........the Yankees........The best team money can buy.......will not be in the post season. And....a team........with 1/10th of the Yankee payroll (the Tampa Bay Rays) will make it.

Oh how I love it! The Yankees, with the highest payroll in all of baseball ........will be watching the fall classic.....at home.....with the rest of us.

You Yankees.......you dissed Joe Torre ...........you made no significant trades...
....

You thought your "pinstripes" were the cure-all .......for everything. The world......is getting smaller.

Things.....I think I think.......

Fall.....is here. And with it........this wicked pollen....I'm stuffed up and miserable..........

This gas thing is about to make me mad........But it's nice to drive a company car.......with a company credit card......to relieve the pain.

John McCain is suspending his campaign to concentrate on the economic crisis? The republicans must really think the American public is stupid......Is this not politically inspired....or what? I'm just a simple man..........but what exactly.....can McCain do? For .......the economy? And why...........is he suspending his presidential campaign .......to "concentrate on the economic crisis.

Can .....he .....not "multi-task"?

If ......elected president.........will he stop doing everything ........to concentrate on ....one thing?

John McCain .....is a joke....and not qualified to be the president of the United States of America. He was a good soldier.......there have been thousands of them..........but that does not qualify you to lead a nation.

Note to Obama....."Keep on campaigning"!

Have.......a happy Hump Day!
