His teams found glory on the field. His clean-cut image made him one of the biggest icons in college sports. His players had unprecedented academic success for an Ohio State football team.

But Jim Tressel's impressive resume, one of the best in OSU history, wasn't enough to save him.

A Whole Lot of........"Bull"

Chad Johnson....uh ....Ochocinco.....will stop at nothing to get his name in the news.

The recent bull-riding act.....was just that....a lot of "bull"...

From the Atlanta Journal Constitution:

Chad Ochocinco rode a bull for 1.5 seconds

Chad Ochocinco and PBR president Sean Gleason a hour or so before Ochocinco rode a bull at the Gwinnett Arean. (D. Orlando Ledbetter/Dledbetter@ajc.com)

NFL wide receiver Chad Ochocinco rode a bull for 1.5 seconds during intermission of a professional bull riding event on Saturday at the Gwinnett Arena.

The 10-year NFL veteran and six-time Pro Bowler, didn’t make it through one buck by Deja Blu, a 1,500-pound bull. He was nearly stomped by the Bulls’ back legs while scrambling to get out of the way.

“I was mad that I couldn’t ride it out of the chute,” said Ochocinco, who received a $10,000 appearance fee.

Ochocinco, who has been working out in Atlanta and running the track at the Marist School, started tweeting about riding a bull on twitter.com recently. Professional Bull Riders president Sean Gleason issued him a challenge.

Ochocinco practiced riding a bull on Friday and Saturday with Ty Murray, a nine-time world champion and Professional Bull Riding co-founder.

“A comparison would be a guy coming to you and saying I only want to ski one run, but I want to go to the top of the French Alps and do a double diamond,” Murray said.

Ochocinco was clearly nervous before his ride. He rose up off the bull twice before giving Murray the thumbs up signal to open the chute.

“I knew I was in over my head,” Ochocinco said.

Murray gave Ochocinco a crash course on bull riding.

“Mainly, what I was trying to do was show him chute protection and chute safety,” Murray said. “We practiced several crash scenarios today. He’s a phenomenal athlete. He was very easy to teach because he is so athletic.”

After getting thrown, Ochocinco rolled to his left like he getting away from an NFL linebacker.

“I’m sure the NFL is pissed, but I don’t follow their rules anyway,” Ochocinco said.

The PBR folks were delighted with the extra attention.

“It’s been unbelievable,” Gleason said. “At the end of the day, we’ve been in major newspapers for the last five days. It’s just been phenomenal, the national exposure for a sport that really needs it. We need more people to know what we do.”

"Houston.....We have a problem"!

Say it ain't so,  Whitney....

Whitney Houston In Out-Patient Rehab Program

Whitney Houston has checked herself in to an out-patient rehabilitation program ... TMZ has learned.

0509_whitney_houston_Getty_EX

A source directly connected with Whitney tells us ... Houston enrolled in the program around 10 days ago.  The program allows Houston to go out in public ... as long as she has a monitor.

Just last weekend, Houston was enjoying herself at a Prince concert in L.A. ... with her daughter right by her side.

Our source is not saying why Houston is seeking treatment ... but we're told, "She's cleansing herself to get ready for a new movie."

Whitney's Rep: Drugs and Booze ARE The Problem

A rep for Whitney Houston says the singer is receiving treatment in an out-patient rehab program for drugs and alcohol as part of a "long-standing " recovery process.

0509_whitney_houston_BN_Getty_02

TMZ broke the story ... Houston voluntarily enrolled in the program around 10 days ago.

Houston has admitted her problems with substance abuse in the past ... but TMZ has learned the demons have resurfaced.

A music industry source who was with Whitney two weeks ago tells us, "She was plastered and she was a mess."

Brave New World

All the pre-season hype was ....the Phillies pitching staff would be the best in baseball....

But......the Atlanta Braves have something to say about this...

After beating the Phils ....2 out of 3...this week-end....

The Braves may have the better staff.

She had to have been a.......Blonde....

You've all heard them..."Blonde" jokes.......

Blonde parks her car....

Blonde forgets where she parks her car...

Blonde reports her car stolen...

Blonde finds her car.....

Blonde forgets to notify police department....

Enter an innocent Hines Ward......

And we have this......courtesy of TMZ.com:

NFL Star Hines Ward -- Handcuffed at GUNPOINT

Pittsburgh Steelers superstar Hines Ward was removed from a vehicle at gunpoint by LAPD officers and placed in handcuffs this morning in L.A. -- but he was NOT arrested ... TMZ has learned.

Hines Ward

The "Dancing with the Stars" contestant was a passenger in a Honda Civic around 2 AM ... when LAPD officers flipped on their lights and sirens and pulled the car over.

Law enforcement sources tell us cops had run the license plate and noticed the car had been reported stolen.  We're told police drew their weapons ... and ordered both Hines and the female driver out of the car and placed them both in handcuffs.

The female driver then explained ... SHE was the person who reported the car stolen in the first place after an incident involving a valet. But she got her car back ... and forgot to tell cops to call off the alert.

We're told the officers verified her story -- and eventually let both Hines and the driver leave without further incident.  Law enforcement sources tell us Hines was VERY cooperative and understanding about the situation.
